Two licensing schemes are available:
The "new way" introduced in PROKON version 3.0, and the only licensing option since PROKON ver. 3.1.
You start by logging in to License Manager and selecting the license(s) you want to use. License Manager will then provide your license every time you use your PROKON, and release it again when you are done. The system shields your from the complexities of license activation and removes the hardware and network problems sometimes associated with local licenses. You have complete freedom over where you use your license: on your desktop computer, laptop computer, from a network server, or on your computer at home.
License Manager works unobtrusively in the background. While it does depend on Internet access to provide a license, the system will continue offline if there is no connection.
Using License Manager is currently optional, but eventually it will be the only licensing scheme.
*In the above, PROKON refer to any one or more of PROKON Structural Analysis and Design, Padds (stand-alone license) or the Probar 2D, Probar 3D, Prodesk and Pronet extensions for Autodesk software.
The "old way".
Your license resides in a key file that you must activate before you can use it. If you have multiple licenses, e.g. a license for PROKON Structural Analysis and Design, another license for Probar 2D, one for Prodesk and so on, then each will have its own license key. You can deactivate your license if you want to move it to another computer. You can also choose to activate your license key on a network server to facilitate sharing between multiple users.
Local licenses usually work reliably and require Internet access only during activation or deactivation. Unfortunately limitations with file and folder privileges can hinder activation. A license can also be lost in case of hardware failure or data corruption. A license can be moved between computers, but that requires extra steps of deactivation and activation.
